The iron ore industry is facing pervasive challenges brought about by a decline in commodity prices, a significant decrease in demand for raw materials for iron and steel making, the need to reduce capital and operating expenditures, and increasing environmental concerns. The downturn in the global economic market and a fall in demand for pig iron production and consumption are expected to continue in the short run. Demand for steel making is forecast to recover in the medium to longer term. |
