- Primary, secondary and tertiary crushing systems
- Grinding including SAG, rod, ball and pebble mill circuits
- Flotation including Hatch’s achievements as a pioneer in this technology for silica flotation
- Heavy media treatment plants for both drum and cyclone circuits
- Gravity concentration using Batac jigs. Hatch designed and constructed the first Batac jig plant for processing hematite ore in the world

Pelletising
Correct technology selection and process definition, for straight-grate or grate-kiln furnaces, is essential for designing and constructing a pellet plant with the lowest capital investment and operating costs. Hatch helps clients develop the optimum investment options for their projects in terms of pellet demand, raw materials and energy availability.
Direct Reduction
Hatch has expertise in the major direct reduction and direct smelting processes having been involved in the design and construction of several major direct reduction iron (DRI) and hot briquetted iron (HBI) facilities. We were among the pioneers in the development of DRI plants, building two of Ispat’s Sidbec-Dosco DRI plants in Québec and a third plant for Ispat Caribbean in Trinidad.

Hatch was also responsible for the successful design and construction of the materials handling, infrastructure and beneficiation plant for BHP Billiton’s HBI facility in Port Hedland, Western Australia, as well as reviewing the design, construction, commissioning and ongoing operation support for the Direct Reduction Plant. Hatch has also carried out several feasibility and comparative studies, and reviews of gas-and-coal-based direct reduction and direct smelting processes for hematite and magnetite ores.
