Mine Upgrade Project2000 (MUP 2000)
Increase of RBM dredge mining capacity with a new Mining Plant ‘E’, and upgrade of existing Mining Plant ‘A’, including all associated infrastructure requirements. The objective of the project was to maintain RBM Slag production through the Smelter beyond the year 2000, and thus extend the life of mine.
Scope of Services:
- Conceptual studies, including testwork, development of PFD’s and cost estimates for options
- Process development followed by full EPCM, including process evaluation and pilot plant testwork; basic engineering; process and equipment design and detailed engineering
- Full construction and project management including contract supervision and quality assurance; contract administration; safety and labour relations; planning and scheduling; estimating, capital cost control and engineering control; procurement, expediting and inspections; commissioning of facilities and systems
Project Highlights:
- Duration was 40 months from conceptual studies to start-up
- 3.5 million fatality-free manhours worked with an LTIFR of 2,0
- EPCM peaked at 100 professionals, with an integrated Hatch/RBM team
- Construction trades peaked at 1500 people
- Extremely rapid commissioning ramp-up
- Mining Plant ‘E’ produces some 40% of total RBM production, and is the largest floating concentrating plant in the world
- Plant metallurgical and production throughput performance has exceeded the design specifications
